Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with CRM and Project Management software (e.g., Salesforce, Trello, Asana) - training available
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, with a strong background in leadership roles
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; advanced degree in a related field is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and leading initiatives focused on economic development, small business support, entrepreneurship and/or workforce development
  • Philanthropic grant-making experience preferred
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a dynamic, collaborative environment
  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Job Summary

As the Director of Economic Mobility at the Gilbert Family Foundation, you'll play a critical role in advancing economic empowerment and equity in Detroit. This position is focused on creating and leading initiatives that drive economic growth and stability, particularly for underserved communities. This strategy is specifically tailored to uplift Detroiters burdened by housing challenges, ensuring that economic growth and stability go hand in hand with housing security. You will lead in crafting strategies aimed at fostering economic empowerment to build income, assets, and wealth for underserved Detroiters. This role demands a visionary leader who can synergize various stakeholders, demonstrate superior communication skills and is deeply committed to the Foundation's mission of driving inclusive growth and opportunity in Detroit. You will report to the Vice President of Detroit Community Initiatives and manage a team to oversee partnerships and manage the grants portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to promote economic mobility through support of small businesses, entrepreneurship, and workforce development initiatives focused on key industries that support current and future job growth
  • Lead a team dedicated to developing and executing programs that drive economic growth and equity in Detroit
  • Foster an environment of growth, professional development, and innovation for team members
  • Forge and maintain strategic partnerships with local and national entities, including entrepreneurs, business leaders, community organizations, and government agencies
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of grants and resources to support local entrepreneurs, small businesses, and workforce development programs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the Gilbert Family Foundation to align efforts and maximize impact
  • Represent the Foundation in public forums, media engagements, and community events, advocating for economic equity and mobility
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to track, measure, and report on the effectiveness and impact of economic mobility initiatives
  • Ensure all initiatives and interactions embody the Foundation's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Investigate the potential of AI-driven workforce development solutions to identify emerging job opportunities, skills gaps, and training needs for underserved communities in Detroit
  • Explore AI-powered tools for small business support, such as chatbots for entrepreneurs seeking guidance or AI-driven market analysis for small business growth strategies
